About Employ Buffalo Niagara
Employ Buffalo Niagara is an industry-led collaboration working to close the skills gap and provide more effective pathways for employers to connect with individuals looking for careers.
Employ supports our industries’ efforts to develop the talent they require for economic competitiveness and ensures our residents share in the region’s prosperity.
The Buffalo Niagara region is facing a mix of workforce challenges that require immediate attention:
An Aging Workforce
Growing Skills Gap
High Number of Unemployed
Racial Equity and Diversity Disparity
Our Collective Response
In May 2017, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership created Employ Buffalo Niagara – an innovative, industry-led coalition comprised of a broad range of community stakeholders to leverage collective efforts around a set of common goals:
Attract and advance underemployed workers into higher skilled employment opportunities
Create a more inclusive workforce
Train individuals in technical and employable skills & retain workers in middle-skill jobs
Realign education and training to meet local job market demand
Modeled after the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USCCF) initiative – Talent Pipeline Management allowing employers to play a leading role in closing the skills gap to address “Systems Level” barriers in connecting candidates to employment opportunities.
Addressing these inter-related, fundamental issues is critical to a lasting improvement in the workforce development delivery system:
Mission of Employ
Mission: Establish a workforce development system aligned with employer job opportunities with a focus on key sectors to create a stronger, more inclusive workforce.
Vision: An inclusive workforce system driven by employer needs that prepares all members of the community for high-quality careers.
The coalition is committed to working with employers to ensure that hiring needs are met and that the community is building an inclusive workforce. Employ Buffalo Niagara is open to anyone who wishes to participate. There are quarterly meetings and regular communications to keep interested parties informed.
