As I begin my tenure as President & CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, I do so with a deep sense of optimism about where our region is headed and a direct understanding of the work ahead.

Buffalo Niagara has an abundance of organizations, leaders and community partners committed to progress. That is one of our greatest strengths. The opportunity before us is to better harness that collective energy. Too often, our regional impulse has been to create something new each time a challenge emerges – a new group, a new initiative. In the process, we divide our energy, duplicate our efforts and slow the progress we're all working to achieve.

At the BNP, we are focused on a different path: collaboration over duplication. That means bringing the right organizations, resources and expertise together around shared goals that pull us all in the same direction.

The challenges facing employers and our regional economy are many and they are complex. Talent shortages, infrastructure, housing, affordability and economic competitiveness cannot be solved by any single organization acting alone. They require alignment, trust and a willingness for each partner to bring forward their different strengths.

When we do that well, we spend less time competing for attention and more time delivering results and multiplying impact.

I carry this commitment forward into the BNP’s next chapter. We will be a partner that continues to convene and advocate while expecting a higher level of coordination and collaboration for ourselves and others. We will look for opportunities to strengthen existing efforts before creating new ones. We will focus on where the employer community can add value, where our voice can drive action and where collaboration can produce outcomes that no one organization could achieve alone.

This approach is already shaping the BNP. As a co-convener of the NY SMART I-Corridor, we are setting a new standard of what is possible when organizations and regions align around a shared goal. By forming a cohesive team with Rochester and Syracuse, we utilize each of our strengths to advance semiconductor opportunities and revitalize the Upstate New York economy.

Our actions today must also prepare us for tomorrow. Building trust, discipline and regional capacity will be essential as we take on the challenges ahead. Buffalo Niagara’s future will depend on our ability to align around what matters most and move with greater urgency and focus.

The Buffalo Niagara Partnership has an important role to play in shaping our region’s economic future, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this organization at such an important moment for our region. The work ahead will require all of us. When we coordinate our strengths and stay focused on results, we collectively direct our efforts with greater speed and have the greatest impact.
