New York State is home to some of the highest construction costs in the country. The state’s prevailing wage and scaffold laws are two reasons why. That is why the Buffalo Niagara Partnership calls for Scaffold Law reform and opposition to the expansion of prevailing wage in our 2018 Advocacy Agenda.
Regional employers are optimistic about the local business climate, but unconvinced that New York State is becoming more business friendly. This dichotomy is just one of the top line results of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s annual advocacy survey.

The Governor and State Legislature have reached an agreement on the State Budget and, in doing so, have turned their backs on New York employers and doubled down on the state’s well-earned reputation as the most unfriendly place in the country to own and operate a business. The employer mandates contained in this budget are unprecedented and will continue to hold back the Upstate economy.
With just weeks to go before the state’s budget deadline, the Partnership is working hard at home and in Albany to make sure our key state priorities are addressed.
