We are pleased to introduce Grant Loomis, BNP’s Vice President, Government Affairs & Economic Development as our latest Staff Spotlight.

Grant is responsible for developing and advancing the BNP’s advocacy agenda.

Learn a little bit more about Grant in this brief Q&A.

Q: What is your background in/what type of work were you in before the Partnership?

A: Prior to joining the BNP, I worked for local, state, and federal elected officials in a variety of capacities.

Q: How did your past experience prepare you for your current role at the Partnership?

A: My experience was perfect prep work for my current role.  Coming to the BNP, I had foundational knowledge of most policy issues impacting employers and understood how to connect with elected officials most effectively.

Q: Tell us a little-known fact about yourself.

A: I started out my career as a television news reporter. As a result, I have been to more house fires, crime scenes, and grand openings than the average person.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

A: My fun takes a back seat to whatever my two kids are up to at any given moment.  But I do like to read non-fiction, cook during the cold weather months, and watch probably too much TV.

Q: Best Buffalo Hidden Gem.

A: It’s not very hidden, but we take our proximity to water for granted.  Being on or near the water is always a treat.

Q: What is your favorite part about living in Buffalo?

A: Living in Buffalo Niagara gives you the best of both worlds: big city amenities and attractions with a lower cost of living and space to spread out.

Q: What are you doing differently post-pandemic that you didn't do before?

A: I have drastically cut back on my news consumption.  I still stay on top of current events, especially as they relate to my position at the BNP, but I have stopped watching all cable news programming in the evening and listening to news radio during my commute.  I do not feel one bit less informed, and my mental health is better.
