Reliable power. Affordable energy. Modern connectivity. All three will play a critical role in Buffalo Niagara’s ability to grow existing employers, attract new investment and compete in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
That was the focus of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s 2026 Energy & Telecommunications Industry Leaders Forum, held September 16 and bringing together regional business leaders and industry experts for a forward-looking conversation about the infrastructure powering and connecting our economy.
Gary Marchiori, President of EnergyMark
Kevin Lanahan, Vice President of External Affairs & Corporate Communications at the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO), opened the discussion with an update on New York’s electric grid, including capacity, reliability and forecasts for future electricity demand.
Josh Veronica, BNP Vice President of Government Affairs, provided perspective on the evolving policy and regulatory landscape, before Gary Marchiori, President of EnergyMark, led a conversation on current energy market conditions and the factors influencing affordability for businesses.
The discussion quickly moved from what is happening today to what Buffalo Niagara needs to prepare for next.
Industry leaders explored how businesses can reduce energy costs and access available incentives and resources; how employers can prepare for rising demand and infrastructure constraints; and what factors could impact Buffalo Niagara’s ability to maintain competitive energy costs over the next five to ten years.
The takeaway was clear: Buffalo Niagara’s future growth will depend in part on our ability to power and connect it.
Exchanging viewpoints through shared discussion
The Energy & Telecommunications Industry Leaders Forum is one of nine BNP Industry Leaders Forums that convene business leaders throughout the year to identify shared challenges, exchange expertise and help inform the Partnership’s work on the issues impacting employers and the regional economy.
