Meet This Week’s ATHENA Leadership Award® Finalist
Senior Vice President, Administration & Legal Affairs, Corporate Secretary
Teresa Bair is senior vice president of administration and legal affairs and corporate secretary at Athenex, a global biopharmaceutical company in Buffalo. Teresa’s work at Athenex advances the company’s mission to improve the lives of cancer patients around the world by developing safer, more effective and more tolerable cancer treatments.
Teresa transitioned to a global business career after 18 years in private practice as a commercial trial lawyer. As a member of the Athenex leadership team, Teresa oversees legal matters worldwide for the company, leads administration and government relations for US operations, and serves as Corporate Secretary for the board of directors.
Teresa’s volunteer and community service activities include serving as a board member of the WNY Women’s Foundation (WNYWF). She is also a member of the Steering Committee of ALL IN, a community initiative launched by the WNYWF to address the disparity of women in leadership roles across WNY. At Athenex, she has spearheaded corporate giving to focus on the Courage of Carly Fund to honor the life of Carly Collard Cottone, the granddaughter of one of Athenex’s founders, Allen Barnett.
Teresa’s first job was scooping ice cream as a teenager at a little ice cream stand in Henrietta, near Rochester, NY.
Teresa notes being elected partner at the law firm Harris Beach when her twins were just one year old as one of her career highlights. She also was part of the year-long journey to the Athenex IPO, full of obstacles and issues. She says coming out on the other side and completing the IPO successfully, after having navigated all the seemingly insurmountable obstacles along the way, made the outcome even more rewarding.
