Introducing Anne Joynt, finalist for the 2019 ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award

Meet This Week’s ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award® Finalist

Anne Joynt
Junior Partner
Lipsitz & Ponterio, LLC

Anne Joynt is a junior partner with Lipsitz & Ponterio, LLC, a law firm in Buffalo where she represents people who have suffered injuries as a result of exposure to asbestos, as well as those affected by childhood lead poisoning, motor vehicle accidents, construction accidents, medical malpractice, and defective products. An experienced appellate attorney, litigator, and trial attorney, Anne has been with the law firm for 14 years.

Anne has received numerous awards and recognition including being named Woman Lawyer of the Year by Women Lawyers of Western New York. She recently served as president of the Western New York Chapter of the Women’s Bar Association, a statewide organization with 20 member chapters dedicated to the advancement of women in the law and in society.

Anne is currently secretary of the Minority Bar Association of Western New York Foundation, Inc., which provides financial assistance to minority students interested in pursuing a career in the law, and has served on the Board of Directors since 2015. She also currently serves as the assistant secretary to the University at Buffalo Law School Alumni Association and has served on that Board of Directors since 2013.

First Job

When Anne was in high school, she worked as a sales associate at Blissett’s, a small boutique in her hometown of Medina, New York, specializing in children’s clothes, as well as special occasion dresses and bridal gowns.

Career Highlights

Anne says the greatest highlights of her career are the opportunities to make a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of families through her work, whether that is through litigation or trial.

Best Piece of Advice Given Regarding Her Career

“Never expect the boys to wait for you.” (As a young girl, Anne took swimming lessons and advanced up to a class where she was the only girl. She complained to her dad that the boys didn’t wait for her to catch up. This was his advice to her.)

Advice to Give to a Woman Just Starting in the Workplace

“Remember that being a woman is an asset and a strength, not a weakness. It is important for women just beginning their careers to learn to trust their instincts and to advocate for themselves while nurturing and promoting the team around them.”

The list of past winners is a veritable who’s who of women who have attained the height of professional achievement while reaching their hands back to pull others up as they climb. That I was nominated by the Women’s Bar Association, an organization that has been so integral to my own growth as a professional and so important to me as a community, means more to me than I can say.”
