2018 ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award Finalist: Nancy Cox

Meet This Week’s Athena Finalist:

Nancy Cox
Partner
The Bonadio Group

Nancy Cox is a partner in the Bonadio Group, a Western New York CPA firm offering a range of financial and consulting services such as auditing and tax, accounting, business advisory, and financial services. Working in the firm’s commercial division, Nancy serves a variety of clients including auto dealerships, hotels and real estate development companies.

A native of Pittsburgh, Nancy is an active volunteer in the Buffalo Niagara community, helping numerous groups such as Child & Family Services and the Family Justice Center of Erie County. She is also a graduate of Leadership Buffalo and an active member. Residing with her husband and two children in Hamburg, Nancy is a member of the Frontier Central School District Audit Committee, the Board of Directors for the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and is on the Advisory Committee for the Hamburg School District Academy of Finance.

First Job Out of School

Nancy worked for a local dentist in high school filing patient records.

Career Highlights

Working with so many different businesses and business owners, Nancy says she tries to be more than just a historical accountant for her accountants. She constantly looks at the big picture and how she can help them meet their goals. Part of the Bonadio Group for 12 years, Nancy recently helped launch a “Lean In” group in which members meet regularly as a method of providing support and mentorship for women in the firm.

Best Piece of Advice Given Regarding Her Career

You control what shapes your life and what stays in your head. Don’t let the bad stuff “rent space” in your head.

“I honestly try to do my best every day (the outcome on some days is definitely better than others!). I’m so humbled to be honored for doing just that – trying to do my best and genuinely make a difference. It doesn’t always work, but you never know until you try, right?”
