Before applying for the Marketing and Events internship at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, I did not have any other internship experience under my belt. When I was offered the position, I was ecstatic! I didn’t know too much about the Partnership coming in, but as my internship comes to a close, I have learned so much.
As my marketing and events internship at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership is reaching its end, I can’t help but to reflect on this valuable experience. This was my first job in an actual professional environment so I was extremely unsure about what it would be like day-to-day and how to act amongst professionals. That being said, it didn’t take long to get comfortable in the office thanks to the kindness and sincerity of everyone whom I interacted with. I immediately felt welcomed and like part of the team.
My experience at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership as a marketing and events intern was valuable. The working culture was conducive to learning and everyone was very friendly. I had a chance not only to work for marketing and events, but to also check out other departments. My supervisor, Krystal Testa, did not limit me to only one area, instead, she encouraged me to learn as much as possible while I was with the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. I was able to showcase my marketing skills while also developing new ones during my time working with the marketing team. I worked on many projects and received training on their customer relationship management (CRM) system and WordPress.
When asked about my time as an intern at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, I have a difficult time giving an easily summarized response. This is because for the past two months, I have had anything but a ‘simple’ experience as the Partnership’s Marketing and Engagement intern. From the projects and tasks that I have had the opportunity to work on, to the invaluable connections and personal relationships I have made, I could not be more appreciative of this experience.
My time at the Partnership on the Economic Development team was an amazing experience, to say the least. First of all, this is my first experience working in an office. It’s very different from working retail or at a summer camp, which is what I am used to. The environment was just so welcoming here — everyone is nice and cheery in the mornings (most of the time) and an all-around joy to work with. It was honestly my first job where I got up in the morning and looked forward to coming to with anticipation as to what task they were going to have me work on next, and they always kept me busy.
The time I spent with the Partnership in the events and marketing departments has been an incredible learning opportunity. The staff I worked with were very helpful and presented me with amazing learning opportunities. I have been very fortunate because after completing my first internship with the events team, I was asked to come back a second time to help more broadly with events and marketing. I was happy to accept both offers because these are not the types of internships where you just stand back and observe the professionals – they are very hands on and I am very grateful for that. I was able to jump in on everything that was going on and was given multiple tasks to own. The internships gave me a chance to see how everything works in the events and marketing fields and, more importantly, how they work together. Being able to be so involved really showed me what the job entails.
