Laura Smith is our Vice President of Economic Development and latest staff spotlight! Her main focus is on policy reform and she is responsible for the supervision of our Economic Development department, including our councils, workforce development and BN360, The Partnership’s young professionals program. Q: What is your background in/what type of work were you in before the Partnership?
A: My background is in commercial and industrial real estate. I studied urban and regional planning at UB.
Q: How did your past experience prepare you for your current role at the Partnership?
A: I have been with the Partnership for 17 years so my “past experience” is in the past! I had experience dealing with municipalities when working with clients who were trying to get approvals for development projects around the area. I saw first-hand how our policies can help or hinder smart development.
Q: Tell us a little known fact about yourself:
A: I love riding road bikes. I used to race back in the day!
Q: What do you like to do for fun?
A: Anything outdoor! Biking, hiking, skiing, etc.
Q: Best Buffalo Hidden Gem:
A: Not so hidden, but all of the great works we have by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Q: What is your favorite part about living in Buffalo?
A: Proximity – to everything! And how friendly people are here.
