Buffalo Niagara Partnership issues statement in response to Governor Cuomo’s 2020 State of the State Address
Dottie Gallagher, President & CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, has issued the following statement:
“The Buffalo Niagara Partnership applauds Governor Cuomo for resisting calls from some state leaders to raise taxes as the solution to the state’s $6 billion budget deficit. Raising taxes on already overburdened New Yorkers is not the answer, especially as the state continues to lead the nation in population loss. We eagerly await the Governor’s budget proposal for the details of how his administration plans to close the budget gap.
We congratulate the Governor for outlining several initiatives in his State of the State to help move Buffalo Niagara and New York State forward including lowering the corporate tax rate for small businesses and developing of the North Aud block at Canalside in downtown Buffalo.
However, the Governor’s call for new employer mandates and increased regulation of the gig economy will raise the cost of doing business, further eroding the economic competitiveness of Upstate New York. Instead, the Governor and State Legislature must commit themselves to delivering real reform and providing real relief to New Yorkers.”
