Manufacturing Month Kickoff Event Begins October Focus on WNY Manufacturing

Buffalo Niagara Partnership spotlights area manufacturers with events and communications throughout the month

BUFFALO, N.Y– The Buffalo Niagara Partnership Manufacturers’ Council will kick off its 2015-16 season and mark the beginning of its Manufacturing Month initiative with an opening event on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Shea’s Smith Theatre, 658 Main Street, Buffalo, NY 14202. The event is open to Partnership members as well as non-members and will feature local and national manufacturing experts, with discussions on the top issues facing manufacturers in the region today.

Keynote speakers include Gardner Carrick, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at the Manufacturing Institute in Washington, D.C., who will present on industry trends and the role of technology in manufacturing. In addition, Dr. Jay Walker, Assistant Professor of Economics at Niagara University and publisher of the monthly Purchasing Manager’s Index Reports, will speak on local manufacturing indices. Following the keynote speakers, the Manufacturers’ Council will present results of a recent survey of Partnership manufacturing members on their needs and priorities.  Grove Potter, Business Editor at The Buffalo News, will serve as moderator and lead a discussion on the survey results and the Council’s top priorities for the 2015-16 season. The Manufacturing Month Kickoff Event is sponsored by National Fuel Resources, The Buffalo News and Source One.

“Western New York has such a rich and varied history of manufacturing, and the Manufacturing Month initiative aims to sharpen the focus on just how important industry is to the region’s economy today,” said Dottie Gallagher-Cohen, President and CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. “As we begin a new season, the Partnership’s Manufacturers’ Council has been expanded to help strengthen our advocacy efforts on behalf of the manufacturing industry in our region.”

Other events during Manufacturing Month include the first tour of the Manufacturers’ Council 2015-16 Tour Series on Thursday, October 15. Open exclusively to Partnership members and limited to 40 participants, the tour will showcase the Coca-Cola Bottling Plant of Buffalo, part of the Abarta Beverage Group.
