2013 was another busy year for the Partnership’s Logistics Council including the 2013 State of Logistics and a series of exclusive, behind-the scene tours at the Peace Bridge, Lewiston-Queenston Bridge and the Port of Buffalo as well as incredible progress on the implementation of the International Trade Gateway (ITG) concept. Over the past year, stakeholders representing both the private and public sectors have met at least bi-monthly to develop the International Trade Gateway strategic plan, which was rolled out in August. The steering committee has made presentations to: the WNY Regional Economic Development Council, Assemblyman Robin Schimminger, representatives from the Port Authority of NY/NJ, Erie County Executive, and the Niagara County Economic Development Alliance.
2013 was a landmark year for growth and development throughout Buffalo Niagara. More than $1 billion in new construction is underway, former industrial lands are attracting major new employers, our economy is branching into new sub-sectors like green technology and our urban centers are being revived with new jobs and population. The resurgence of Buffalo Niagara is unmistakable and it is being reflected in our built environment.
2013 saw full implementation of Dream It, Do It WNY, an initiative designed to engage, educate and employ the next generation of manufacturing talent (we reached 4,400+ students!); another slate of sold-out facility tours, the second series of our Manufacturers Roundtables in which manufacturing peers shared best practices as well as active engagement in the design of two manufacturing-related Buffalo Billion signature initiatives, the Regional Workforce Advancement Center and the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing Competitiveness. We also continued to strengthen strategic partnerships with regional and statewide manufacturing organizations by taking our first trip together to the state capitol to participate in Manufacturing Days in Albany – a two-day event aimed at educating legislators about the importance of manufacturing to our regional and NYS economies.
In 2013, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership for the first time had staff dedicated to CanAm. In March, the Partnership hired Bryan Roth, formerly the Political, Economic & Public Affairs Officer at the Canadian Consulate, as its Business Development Manager for CanAm. Another first for the Council was the naming of its first Chairperson, Joanne Campagna, Senior Vice President of Global Commercial Banking at Bank of America.
