Before applying for the Marketing and Events internship at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, I did not have any other internship experience under my belt. When I was offered the position, I was ecstatic! I didn’t know too much about the Partnership coming in, but as my internship comes to a close, I have learned so much.
My major is Marketing, but this internship also involved the events aspect of the organization. It was a wonderful to get this experience and now I realize I also have an interest in event planning/coordination. Krystal Testa was my supervisor and she is a great mentor! She guided me through the tasks that were assigned to me and was very helpful when I was unsure or had questions. She gave me tasks that expanded and tested my knowledge. I got to create power points, stanchions, and update excel sheets. I was able to work on assignm
ents that were important for the Partnership. I also was able to learn how to use WordPress, Publisher and Eventbrite which will be beneficial for me long-term. Krystal did something that I thought was amazing of a supervisor to do. She asked me if there was anything else I wanted to learn about or get involved with. I loved that she put an emphasis on my interests and wanted to help me expand my knowledge. Not only was I able to work with Krystal, but I also worked closely with other members of the team. This helped to expand my work assignments.
I really enjoyed attending multiple events that the Partnership offers. I was able to help prepare these events and work them as well. I had the opportunity to learn what occurs behind the scenes of event planning and event hosting. It was a great experience to participate in the events by sitting in and listening. I was able to learn more than I expected by attending these events.
The Partnership is a great place to Intern for. The people here are friendly and approachable. I was able to make many connections with my peers and people from the events I have attended. The Partnership was able to give me a real look into the work environment and office setting – I enjoyed every minute of it!
