2013 Year in Review: Manufacturers Council

2013 saw full implementation of Dream It, Do It WNY, an initiative designed to engage, educate and employ the next generation of manufacturing talent (we reached 4,400+ students!); another slate of sold-out facility tours, the second series of our Manufacturers Roundtables in which manufacturing peers shared best practices as well as active engagement in the design of two manufacturing-related Buffalo Billion signature initiatives,  the Regional Workforce Advancement Center and the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing Competitiveness. We also continued to strengthen strategic partnerships with regional and statewide manufacturing organizations by taking our first trip together to the state capitol to participate in Manufacturing Days in Albany – a two-day event aimed at educating legislators about the importance of manufacturing to our regional and NYS economies.

And most importantly, our manufacturing members had a good year!

2014 is shaping up to be an equally busy year including our next stop in the Manufacturers Council Tour Series at Graphic Controls on March 13 and Manufacturing Days in Albany on March 17 & 18. We’re also pleased to again work with Business First on their Manufacturing Awards – nominations are now open.

At the heart of the Partnership’s industry work are our industry advisory councils. The Manufacturers Council is comprised of a group of manufacturing leaders who bring unique perspective to the Partnership’s work on behalf of the industry by developing and creating tangible value for the manufacturing members of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Manufacturers Council’s immediate past Chair, Adam Pratt of Sherex Fastening Solutions for his years of leadership and officially welcome its new Chair, Matt Smith of Moog’s Commercial Aircraft Division.

The 2013/14 advanced manufacturing industry action agenda, released in September 2013, was built from Partnership members’ feedback through our Employer Outreach Program and sets the priority items the Partnership will undertake in 2014 on behalf of Buffalo Niagara’s advanced manufacturing sector – there is still lots to be done!
