Development eyes on Albany as Legislature gets back to business

When state lawmakers convene virtually for the 2021 legislative session this week, local officials will be watching to see if the Assembly and Senate impose any new restrictions on economic development efforts.

Many expect the focus will instead be how to address New York’s projected $20 billion Covid-related fiscal deficit.

“I suspect the state’s fiscal crisis will provide enough motivation by lawmakers to leave economic development policies alone,” said Grant Loomis, Buffalo Niagara Partnership vice president.
