Jan Peters is a seasoned Human Resources professional currently employed with Trocaire College as their Chief Human Resources Officer. Jan has her BA from SUNY Buffalo in Anthropology and American Studies and her MS from Chapman University in Human Resources Management. Jan is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources from SHRM and HRCI. She has 20+ years global Human Resources leadership experience within organizations in all phases of the business cycle and within Financial Services, Management Consulting, Manufacturing, Information Technology Services, Tourism and Hospitality, and most recently in Higher Education.

Since her employment at Trocaire College in 2016, Jan ensured that The College’s strategic plan included the goal of hiring faculty and staff that match the diversity of our students. She put in place an inclusive hiring process resulting in an increase in under-represented populations. In 2018 Trocaire College was selected as one of “The Great Colleges to Work For” by The Chronicle of Higher Education in the following categories: Professional/Career Development Programs; Respect & Appreciation; Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship; and Work/Life Balance.

Jan reenergized the Trocaire College Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and access (IDEA) Committee and drafted the Charter.  IDEA committee membership completed the Colleges and Universities Professional Association HR (DEI) Maturity Index obtaining a baseline and identifying best practices to track progress year over year in the areas of Communication and Education, Assessment, Culture, Investment and Infrastructure, and Compensation-Recruitment-Retention.

Prior to transitioning to a career in Human Resources Management, Jan served 10 years as a Communications Officer within the US Army and is a Desert Storm veteran. Jan returned to Western New York in 2014 after living out of state and abroad since 1986.  Jan has been a member of the Charter School of Inquiry Board of Trustees since 2019 and is the Chair of their Governance Committee.
