The Trump Administration formally notified Congress of its intent to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) on May 18th. This notification triggered a 90-day period before negotiations with Canada and Mexico can begin and opened a public comment period.
As part of the NAFTA re-negotiation process, the United States Trade Representative (USTR) published a Federal Register Notice soliciting public comments on the agreement. The USTR will use the comments to assist the Administration in identifying its negotiating priorities.
We talked to Pietra Zaffram, an attorney at Harris Beach, a Partnership member, about some of the changes to NAFTA. You can learn more about what is in the draft of the new agreement, part of our Council Q&A series.
The Buffalo Niagara Partnership has submitted comments on behalf of our membership. We will continue to monitor the process to keep the business community informed of any developments.
