And now, there is more opportunity than ever before for entrepreneurs to take part in the growing momentum because of 43North, the world’s largest business plan competition.
As a part of Governor Cuomo’s Buffalo Billion initiative, 43North was created with the goal of turning the Buffalo Niagara region into one of America’s entrepreneurial hotbeds.
With $5 million in cash to give away to new businesses, 43North is set to bring 11 start-up companies to Buffalo with a year of free incubator space, business mentors and access to other exciting incentive programs.
The first round of applications is open until May 31. Judges will be looking for business ideas that are scalable and have the potential for aggressive growth- even if it’s just an idea on a napkin!
With applications accepted from any industry (except retail and hospitality) or country, 43North is setting out to turn the best business ideas from around the world into reality …and Buffalo is reaping the benefits.
Thanks in part to 43North, the Buffalo Niagara region is well on its way to becoming a desired destination for startup businesses across the globe.
So far, applicants have come from 48 states and 66 countries including Andorra, Morocco and Tanzania! Click here to see the number of countries hoping to start their business in Buffalo Niagara.
There is no doubt that 43North is gaining traction. Since February 5, 2014, 43North has received 900 applications and counting!

43North’s finalists will present their plans in Buffalo from October 27-30, where they will find out which level of cash prizes they will receive. All finalists are eligible to win the top award of $1 million, one of the six $500,000 awards or one of the four $250,000 awards.
