Emily Barber

Talent Management Specialist | Performance Management Partners

Emily is a Talent Management Specialist for Performance Management Partners, a consulting firm providing search and organizational development services for Western New York-based organizations in all industries. Emily fulfills management to c-suite level searches utilizing her strong networking skills and relationships with regional top talent.

Emily received an M.S., Communication and Leadership with a concentration in Not-for-Profit Management from Canisius College and is a published author in Gender in Management: an International Journal. She also received a B.S., Communication Studies with a Minor in Leadership Studies from The State University of New York at Fredonia and feels a strong sense of pride and connection to the college and campus community.

A Westchester County, NY native, Emily relocated to Western New York to obtain her degrees. Upon graduation, she had fallen in love with the region and decided to make it her home.

First Job:

While attending Canisius College as a graduate student, Emily worked as a grant writer for Upper Edge Consulting and helped WNY-area not-for-profit organizations realize over $1m in funding to support projects focusing on cultural tourism and economic development.

Greatest Professional Win:

In my two years with Performance Management Partners, I have had the privilege of being involved in over a dozen searches for key positions within the WNY community, with nearly half of those being in the not-for-profit sector. This equates to a significant economic impact in the local community. In addition, I am incredibly driven by philanthropy and “success” to me also includes volunteering my time to positively impact the lives of others, even in seemingly small ways!

Best Piece of Professional Advice:

Have faith in yourself, trust your gut, and take purposeful, calculated risks outside of your comfort zone. You will learn more about yourself both personally and professionally than ever before.

Community Corner:

Emily is an active member of the Buffalo Niagara community. She has been recognized and contributed in the following ways:

  • Buffalo Niagara Sales and Marketing Executives – Member
  • BN360 – Member
  • Fifty Fabulous Women Giving Circle – Co-Chair, Strategic Planning Committee
  • Leadership Buffalo – Rising Leaders
  • The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of WNY – Council Member, Nominee Mentor, Member – Tomorrow’s Leaders, Rising Stars
  • The State University of New York at Fredonia – Alumni Speaker, Guest Lecturer
  • The United Way of Buffalo & Erie County, Next Generation United – Advisory Board Member, Co-Chair – RFP Committee

Thoughts on living and working in Buffalo Niagara:

I am a proud Buffalo Niagara transplant and have never felt more at home. The region’s energy, pride, and sense of community is something special. As The New York Times published, “Classic architecture, international cuisine, adventurous activities and serious art…this Western New York City is blossoming.”

Professionally, networking and relationship-building are key. You will find that most professionals are willing to connect with you and refer you to various people and resources to help you succeed. Also, oftentimes you will see familiar and welcoming faces at professional and community events!

I hope for the region to attract and retain its best and brightest while simultaneously protecting and investing in its most vulnerable communities.

On Being a BN360 Spotlight Professional:

I immediately felt a wave of excitement followed by a deep sense of gratitude when I learned of my selection as a Spotlight Professional. I am honored to be considered among such inspiring and impressive peers who are all contributing to our region in diverse and meaningful ways!

This is also an opportunity to express gratitude for my incredible support system of family, friends, and mentors. Your empowerment and unwavering belief in me have made me who I am today. I sincerely thank you.
