NYS Legislative Session comes to an end

The 2015 New York State Legislative session is one for the history books – but not for what was accomplished legislatively.

This tumultuous session, which saw the leaders of both the Senate and Assembly resign their leadership posts in scandal, ended more than a week later than scheduled and with very little legislative activity.

We should incentivize asbestos remediation

Any significant redevelopment effort usually includes asbestos remediation.

Seeing as how asbestos remediation is very tedious and very expensive work, and is often a deterrent to moving forward with a redevelopment plan, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership has long advocated for a state incentive program to encourage asbestos remediation.

Opposing another hike in minimum wage

We strongly oppose yet another hike in New York State’s minimum wage.

New York already pays one of the highest minimum wage rates in the country, with a scheduled increase to $9.00/hour set for the end of this year. Attempts to raise the minimum wage again – to levels that would put New York’s rate well above the vast majority for the country – will do nothing but further disadvantage our state which is already well known as a high-tax, overly regulated, and unfriendly place for business,” said our President & CEO, Dottie Gallagher-Cohen.

LNG program will bring energy to New York’s economy

The Partnership is proud to announce that we can cross another one of our top priorities off the do-list list. Earlier this week, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) finally outlined its program to allow the construction and operation of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facilities in New York.

For far too long, New York has been the only state in the country without an LNG program, forcing New Yorkers to miss out on the real economic opportunity that LNG offers.
