Buffalo Niagara Partnership, Unshackle Upstate Endorse Harry Wilson for State Comptroller

Partnership Releases Full List of Endorsements

(BUFFALO, N.Y.) – The Buffalo Niagara Partnership together with Unshackle Upstate, today endorsed businessman Harry Wilson for the position of New York State Comptroller. Andrew Rudnick, President and CEO of the Partnership and Brian Sampson, Executive Director of Unshackle Upstate joined Wilson to announce the endorsement at the Partnership offices in Buffalo.

“Harry Wilson’s message has been one of the most refreshing we’ve heard from any candidate for office at any level of government in quite some time,” said Andrew Rudnick, President & CEO of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. “Wilson not only talks clearly and comprehensively about how the office of state comptroller can help business economics in NY, but also expresses specific plans for using that office to help the state’s struggling economy, especially here in upstate.  Harry Wilson has earned our endorsement this November.”

“In order to tackle New York’s financial crisis, we need an experienced, strong-willed and insightful state comptroller. Unshackle Upstate believes that Harry Wilson has the skills and experience to help get our state back on track,” Brian Sampson, Executive Director of Unshackle Upstate said. “His experience with struggling companies will help him tackle our faltering government.  The pension system is tanking, there are millions of dollars of wasteful spending and the current Comptroller has shown no willingness to fix the issues. We need an outsider like Harry Wilson to overhaul this office.”

“I am enormously grateful to be endorsed by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and Unshackle Upstate,” State Comptroller candidate Harry Wilson said. “It means a great deal to be supported by such strong, pro-job growth organizations.”

“New York State needs a top-to-bottom audit of every dollar spent.  As comptroller, I will conduct the most comprehensive forensic audit of state spending ever seen – much like I did with General Motors — to root out waste and inefficiencies in government and recommend ways to provide services more efficiently.  New York must reduce its tax burden on families and businesses to attract jobs and economic activity here again.  The Office of the State Comptroller has been serially underutilized; I will make the office a thorough and proactive agent for fiscal reform in New York,” Wilson added.

Rudnick also released the Partnership’s full list of endorsed candidates for the November 2 election today.  The Partnership’s list of endorsed candidates are:

Harry Wilson, R – NYS Comptroller

Sen. Charles Schumer, D – U.S. Senate (full term)

“I am enormously grateful to be endorsed by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. Harry Wilson, candidate NYS Comptroller

“I am proud to receive the endorsement of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, which is a powerhouse of job creation and retention in Western New York. I have worked closely with the Partnership to support existing companies, attract new industries and create a better business climate in New York State. I look forward to continued collaboration that will create growth, new employment and more investment.”

Sen. Charles Schumer, candidate U.S. Senate

“Since coming to Congress last year, I’ve made it my goal to shrink Washington and grow Western New York, and to empower small businesses and manufacturers to create value and jobs here at home. These are goals shared by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and the Western New Yorkers they serve. I am honored by the Partnership’s support of my campaign, and I appreciate its efforts on behalf of our workers and local economy. I look forward to continuing to work with the Partnership to help the private sector grow, strengthen our economy and create good-paying jobs here in Western New York.”

Rep. Chris Lee, candidate US House of Representatives, 26th District

“From our work on the waterfront to our support of projects along the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, we are fighting every day to grow the local economy and create jobs. We appreciate the Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s recognition of our efforts to stand up for the Western New York business community.”

Rep. Brian Higgins, candidate US House of Representatives, 27th District

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.  I am committed to reforming state government, reducing taxes and rebuilding Western New York’s economy.  To revive Upstate New York, we must have strong private sector development and the ability to retain our best and brightest workers that are currently being driven out of our state by downstate’s tax and spend policies.  As Senator, I intend to rely on the Partnership to help me return New York to the Empire State.”

Assemblyman Jack Quinn, candidate NYS Senate, 58th District

“It has become increasingly clear that Albany is in need of someone that knows how to stand up to corruption, root out the inefficiencies and fraud that are wrought in state government, and create an environment that is friendly to Upstate business development and retention.  The Buffalo Niagara Partnership has long been the standard bearer for addressing those needs, and I am proud to have their support.  I look forward to working with the Partnership on making New York State a better place to live and run a business.”

Patrick Gallivan, candidate NYS Senate, 59th District

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership. As a first term State Senator, working to make State government more business friendly has been one of my priorities. Local businesses will be able to create jobs only after Albany cuts spending, lowers taxes and stops burdensome regulations. I look forward to continue working with the Partnership to create more opportunities for residents in Western New York.”

Sen. Michael Ranzenhofer, candidate NYS Senate, 61st District

“I want to thank the Partnership for their endorsement, their trust, and their commitment to my campaign for State Assembly.  I am proud of my record as a Hamburg Councilman, especially on the issues of lowering taxes and creating business growth and jobs.  I appreciate the Partnership’s roll in WNY to increase private sector investment and jobs.”

Kevin Smardz, candidate NYS Assembly, 146th District

“I am truly honored to receive the endorsement of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership.  For the past three years, we have employed solid business principles in running the Clerk’s office that have saved taxpayers time and money.  I am very proud that we have assisted thousands of residents in securing their cross-border documents to ensure that the flow of commerce between WNY and Canada was not negatively impacted when the new border crossing rules were implemented.”

Kathy Hochul, candidate Erie County Clerk
