Member Spotlight: Southwest Airlines

Southwest Airlines has been a proud member of the Partnership since 2011. In this Member Spotlight, we spoke with Jill Simonson Luciano who is a Regional Leader of Community Affairs at the airline.

Q: What is the biggest benefit of being in the region? 
A: Serving our Customers!

Q: Tell us something about your company that would surprise people?
A: We really are the LUV airline – our ticker symbol on the NYSE is LUV!

Q: What are you most proud of regarding your company?
A: Our position as a dedicated corporate citizen. We champion causes that matter most in the communities that we serve, including the Buffalo Niagara region.

Q: What’s new with your company?
A: Southwest has brand new international destinations now – and more to come!Southwest Airlines

Q: What is the best quality of your company employees?
A: Warrior spirits! And of course, their big hearts.

Q: What is the biggest struggle of being a business in the region?
A: Having grown up in the region, I know the weather can be a hurdle sometimes, but it’s nothing we haven’t experienced (and conquered!) before.

Q: What is the biggest benefit of being a Partnership member?
A: Tremendous opportunities to meet like-minded members and people who too care about the region and want Buffalo to be a fantastic place to live and work.

Q: What is your hope for the future of the Buffalo/Niagara business community?
A: That we continue to develop our next generation of leaders and companies.

Q: How do you see BNP growing business in the region?
A: By sharing best practices and creating accessibility for new companies to learn “from the best.”

Q: What is your top future concern for Buffalo’s business community?
A: Opportunities are here – across many industries and skill levels – and we can’t forget that. The BNP works to ensure its member companies have access to talent, ideas, capital and most importantly, support, in order to succeed.
