URGENT - Albany chatter is of more tax increases!
November 16, 2009

Word from Albany is that the appetite for cutting the size and cost of government is thin, and that negotiations between the governor and state legislature are focused on increasing state revenues i.e. taxes. This is unacceptable! We are still reeling from the ill-advised tax increases by the state legislature this spring that have now resulted in a $4.1 billion (and growing) budget deficit. The state must reduce spending immediately!

It is imperative TODAY that we put pressure on our state legislators to reject any increased taxes in dealing with the state budget deficit. Unshackle Upstate has outlined a plan for reducing spending that provides a roadmap for short- and long-term spending reductions. I urge you to contact your senator and assemblymember with a firm message: tax increases are not acceptable.

To weigh in via e-mail, visit Unshackle Upstate's action center to send a message to the state legislature, urging them to support Unshackle Upstate's proposed spending reduction package. But, I also urge you to take it a step further and call your individual legislators, with this message:

  • No new taxes or tax increases;
  • Albany must reduce the size and cost of government;
  • Support Unshackle Upstate's spending reduction package (they have copies - but feel free to offer to send them another).

If you're not certain who your specific legislators are and their contact info, you can find out here.

Decisions on the state budget deficit are being made as I write - please join this important effort today.
