The Buffalo Niagara Partnership has been actively worked toward a solution for the County?s fiscal crisis. By commissioning the Erie County Stabilization Project, the Partnership set in motion a project which involved 150 volunteers from business, organized labor, and the not for profit sector. The report outlines more than 128 recommendations for the future of ErieCountygovernance and has the potential to reap annual savings of in excess of $110 million. All of this year?s candidates for ErieCountyoffices have been informed of the report, and the Partnership encourages its members to hold them accountable for implementing the changes that the document identifies.
Sheriff
Based on the record of the two candidates and interviews conducted by the Government Affairs Committee, the BuffaloNiagaraPartnership endorses Tim Howard for Sheriff. While committee members agree both candidates are very well qualified in the field of law enforcement, Tim Howard is most qualified to hold the position of Erie County Sheriff. Mr. Howard clearly understands the intricacies of the Sheriff?s Department?s road patrol and corrections responsibilities. He also realizes the severity of the fiscal crisis the county is facing and we feel he is better equipped to make tough decisions necessary for this department to deliver mandated services to the residents of ErieCounty.
