"Unshackle Upstate"
Thursday, March 16, 2006
On Wednesday, the Buffalo Niagara Partnership’s Chairman, Bob Brady (Chairman and CEO of Moog, Inc.), went to Albany with Partnership staff to join with business organizations from across New York to roll out Unshackle Upstate.
Unshackle Upstate is a public policy initiative led by the Buffalo Niagara Partnership and Rochester Business Alliance in collaboration with more than a dozen upstate chambers and business groups (that list continues to grow). Our goal: to improve and revitalize the business climate of Upstate. Issues such as Workers' Compensation, Medicaid and the Scaffold Law (which holds contractors absolutely liable for construction falls) are just a few of several key areas identified in the report requiring legislative action.
During its Albany visit, the Unshackle Upstate coalition met with Senate and Assembly majority members to promote the plan and to ask for their support.
Below is a small sample of media reports of the event:
The next step in our effort to obtain legislative relief is to generate grassroots support for Unshackle Upstate through an e-advocacy campaign. Please participate and send a message in support of Unshackle Upstate to Albany -- and to encourage others within your organization to do the same.
Visit www.UnshackleUpstate.com to learn more about the initiative. There’s also a simple, user-friendly way to send a letter to legislators via the "Get Involved" button located by the center logo on the website (see the first paragraph on the “Get Involved” page which begins “Tell Albany the state we’re in”).
In the last 24 hours nearly 1,000 people have already engaged in our effort. Please join them, and urge your friends, family and co-workers to do the same.
Thanks for your support. Enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely,
Andrew J. Rudnick President & CEO
