PARTNERSHIP ENDORSES SLAUGHTER FOR RE-ELECTION

Congresswoman’s leadership on passport issue vital to Buffalo Niagara

(BUFFALO, NY) – The Buffalo Niagara Partnership, representing 2,500 employer members throughout the region, announced today that it is endorsing U.S. Congresswoman Louise Slaughter (D-28th) for re-election.

“I am pleased to receive the Buffalo Niagara Partnership's endorsement of my re-election,” said Congresswoman Slaughter. “From advancing a federal smart border policy and maintaining low-cost power for local employers, to securing brownfield remediation funding and investing in Buffalo's bio-medical sector, I've been proud to advance our economy to keep Western New York working. I thank the Partnership and its members for their continuing support.”

“One of the foremost components of the Partnership’s NOW Campaign is protecting the expedited, safe and uncomplicated flow of goods and people across the Canadian/U.S. border,” added Louis P. Ciminelli, chairman of LPCiminelli, Inc. and chairman of the Partnership’s board of trustees. “Congresswoman Slaughter has joined with the Partnership by taking a leadership role in this issue, and the recent approval of a delay in implementation of the WHTI is a victory for our region. We are proud to support Congresswoman Slaughter’s re-election campaign for her efforts on protecting our border and other issues.”

Aided by Slaughter’s leadership, a delay in the implementation of WHTI was recently approved, postponing a border crossing passport requirement until June of 2009. The Congresswoman has also pushed for language in the bill that would allow alternative documents to allow passage over the border.

“Congresswoman Slaughter each year has been supportive of the collaborative Regional Agenda, which prioritizes efforts that will have the largest return on investment for economic development spending, and will make our region as a whole more attractive for business retention and expansion as well as new investment and jobs.,” continued Andrew J. Rudnick, Partnership President & CEO. “The Congresswoman continues to deliver results for the Buffalo Niagara community, such as securing funding for the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. We support her re-election effort and look forward to working with her for two more years.”
